Panelists will discuss the body of folk and fairy tales, legends and myths, religious
tales, superstitions and folklore that have all been richly mined for ideas and inspiration for modern fantasy writing. Why are these ideas so compelling? Are there stories we have told and re-told too many times? What ideas in the world folk reservoir deserve a second or even first look by fantasy writers?

Topics might include (but are not limited to): What are the various lengths and who says so? What drives the length of a story? Can the same story be told in different lengths? What are the challenges and satisfactions of ultra-short form writing? Are short stories really the best "training tool" for writing? If you had your druthers, what length would you write most frequently? What are the challenges and satisfactions of the short story? What are the challenges and satisfactions of the novel? How do you know you are writing a novel and not a long short story? How do you know you have started a series?
