Tremble, all ye computer circuits....

I am quaking in my boots. My Palm calendar won't open -- the error has to do with personal ID info, not the program, so I'm trying an update to see if that will work.

I only use the desktop feature right now -- haven't used a handheld in years, it's not in budget since the last died. I sure hope I haven't lost my address book and calendar.

I will be /unhappy/.

:( I would be so unhappy now. I would be smashing things.

I think I'm numb. I'm sure I have a backup from last fall, but just the magnitude is overwhelming. I haven't printed a copy in years.

Which is why I don't want to switch to a digital library. I don't trust digital.

Once you recover the information - and I am going to stay hopeful that you will - I'm pretty sure we can fix you up with a spare Palm handheld if you don't mind an older one. I rarely carry the handheld anymore but the thing I like best about using one is the ease of getting the data copied to numerous different places, just in case!

Since my Palm V died, I have been using a souped up Palm 3.5e which was once a Palm I kicked to a 2.5 (until the cradle died -- could be a dead Palm, but I think it's a dead cradle.)

We can make a pile of old ones after I recover the data (pleaSE, PLEASE!) and see if any of them work! ;^)

Back up the whole directory NOW!!! before you do ANYTHING ELSE.

Then reinstall the software in another directory making a user called something like ABC.

Then copy your user directory into that installation.

Sadly, I did not get this post before downloading the update.

Forgetting that unless certain switches are flipped, Palm will pull and overwrite.

This is why I am not trusted with matches, on bad days. I am contemplating my next move. If I could recognize the dictionary, I would duplicate it elsewhere before doing anything else. I think the data files should be backed up on my IOmega.

First, I will try and dup the directory. Then, I am considering uninstalling the new software, reinstalling the original software and the upgrade (which I have on disk) and trying to reinstall the data from the other file.

This is the thoughtful "No, my foot through the monitor won't help a thing" response....
