In defense of Texas hunters...

In 2005: 1.1 million hunting licenses issued in Texas
Number of accidents: 30 reported
Number of hunting accidents involving alcohol: One.

A-huh. That makes Dick Cheney, who admitted to one beer the day he shot Harry Whittington...one in a million.

Daily Kos has details--

I was very struck by this story, where Whittington apologized to Cheney for what he [Cheney] has gone through this week. I haven't commented on the Cheney/Whittington story much (why should I, when everyone else is?) but . . . Whittington felt compelled to apologize to the man who shot him. A sign, I think, of how incredibly bizarre this Administration is, and how fun-house mirror their relationship to the truth is.

*speechless*

Ah - that would only be true if he had the liscense...

Yes, I heard about that. You noticed what I see as the important point. I keep thinking "Doesn't anyone get all this?"

But then I'm a fiscal conservative, social liberal, if I must have a label. This administration makes me blow a gasket from both ends.

Now, now--he has the license, the authorities sold it to him on the spot, I think. And they don't sell licenses on Whittingtons...do they?
