I did think it a better book, but I got it at Half Price Books -- I would not pay full price for it. But you might see if your library has it, get on the list -- or check Costco/Sams if you have one. It's too short -- that's why I think that Mistral's was the front half. But it takes place maybe a month later. Important Things Happen at last. I was right about how the pregnancy thing would go, but she dug up an interesting Celtic legend to use. She does her homework, that cannot be disputed.
I bought the first three Merry Gentrys new in paper, after reading the library copies. Bought #4 in hdbk at Costco, because I thought I was going to Conestoga and would ask Laurell to sign it (I used to know her casually, but her life is Way Too Busy for any but close friends in her area. Her fan club person even sends out standard replies to holiday notes.) And #5 because it was there at half price, and $12.50 was reasonable.
I don't buy many hardbacks at full price anymore. Being mostly unemployed means used a lot. I pay full price for friends who are starting out in trade, to help their numbers. (Laura Anne Gilman's contemporary fantasies are fun! Gritty, too.)
