Bullet points for a weekend

I did not sleep at all last night (or slept in 10 minute bursts, blast it) so W got up and went to meet the people we were going to Burnett with by train. (I find no note otherwise, so that is my guess.) I just hate this -- apparently the 5htp is as crucial to my recovery as the drugs, because for various reasons I forgot the supplements last night.

I have a pile of Xmas catalogs that has passed two feet tall -- and I haven't ordered from a catalog for at least a year, using the Internet sites instead. I walk past it carefully, as it sometimes seems to be eying me and sliding ever-so-carefully to one side....

Maisie is animated. I went over to see what she was so excited about, thinking it was a lizard, and resigned to letting her have this one -- and saw something large and striped disappear. I think there is a snake under the office breakfront. There must be a ledge underneath, since I can see no snake nor feel it with a ruler. I keep trying to convince it that I am a much better choice than Maisie as a finder, but it's scared and not moving. If, when I see it, it is small and striped long like a ribbon, I will try to catch it and put it in the garden. If it has horizontal stripes, I will be call [livejournal.com profile] tia_tarina for snake retrieval. I hope it snuck under the garage door and down into the office. This is preferred -- otherwise there's a hole someplace large enough for a snake!

Good thing Inky and [livejournal.com profile] bevhale aren't here. To say they don't like snakes is an understatement.

Re-planted several plants in the wee hours Saturday am. Have more potting soil, and will try to re-pot everything else, along with finishing caulking. The next scene calls, but must do things before I forget -- like new weatherstripping for the front door. (Very hard weatherstripping up there -- probably from the house being built perhaps 30 years ago.)

I'd be freaking out, too. I'm so not a snake person. :)

Perhaps worse than I thought -- the snake (or a relative) crawled from the big entertainment center to a hole in the wall over near the new doors. This was while I was out of the room -- so, was it through the wall, or an out-of-wall dash? It was a tug of war to get him-her out and toss outside. Now, I am looking at my walls and wondering who lives in there....

Here's a pic of Maisie, my great huntress.

to say I don't like snakes is like saying "total annihilation of the universe would be inconvenient for some of us." I loathe snakes, I get the total creeps from snakes, I offered to quit a job over snakes. Snakes, ick. ick ick. There will need to be a very thorough snake inspection before I come see you. Love you, love the beloved W and the wonder kitties---lizards are ok, but the snakes have got to go. Ick.

If I have any doubts after caulking (and that's probably what happened -- I filled the caulk holes on the outside of the deck windows, and trapped the snake inside) I'll have [livejournal.com profile] tia_tarina inspect the premises.

The cats promise to take care of all snakes (after all Maisie found it first, and then when it moved while she was in the rest of the house, she found it again) 'cus that's part of their job. 24/7 cat protection from Cthulhu and his snake buddies, who are dumb and get lost between the back yard and the front yard....

Good kitties. Like snake-hunting kitties. Extra treaties for Maisie!

Snake warming tomorrow!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2007-12-21 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] tia_tarina and [livejournal.com profile] dragonherder1 found a way too cold teeny tiny garter snake in the street outside their home. TiaT is feeding it an earthworm, I think -- too small for crickets. She has invited me over tomorrow for Snake 101, and is sorry you're not around. She thinks this one would be perfect for you to observe at a distance, and maybe touch (tip of one finger on the back, of course.)

Ever since I felt a living snake, I can't think of having snake belts or such anymore. Unless they are rattlers who refuse to leave my back yard. Then, we're talking snake meat for dinner.

Alligators also can be belts, if they're not endangered. But not interested in eating them, thank U very much.

I didn't use to be scared of snakes. I had a garter snake at camp one time. Then I found another snake and put it into a box to show the counselor- she freaked as snake was not the good kind. After that, it was rattlers, cottonmouths and other snakes in my path and I got to the point I didn't want to ever, ever, ever get near another. I've held part of a python and I realize they are God's creatures, too. However, don't love snakes. ick, ick, ick.

And many of them are not to be trusted. Rattlers, at least, will warn you. Water Moccasins are the scary ones. Look like other water snakes at a distance. Want to know if they're the dangerous kind? Make sure you have a good running path, and stomp your feet. If the snake starts toward you instead of the water, Run!

So says tia_tarina.

Yeah, right. Just like jumping onto a a foot high fire ant nest. Of course I'd want to verify it was fire ants....
