Grump -- browser add-ons

I have had one of these before, so I know it's possible. Why hasn't anyone created a browser add-on that not only shows you when you last visited a site, it also, when you are managing your bookmarks, is capable of pinging an actual site to tell you if the link still exists?

I've looked for cobweb finders and delete-rs, looked for URL search and confirm -- the combination of keywords I've tried is not turning anything up. Has anyone else found a Firefox add-on that has this ability? I've been searching the add-on section -- it may be time to search the Internet.

I freely admit that as a writer, I am a magpie where information is concerned. I've bookmarked everything from sites on making soap to naming customs among Asiatic clans. I've started re-organizing, but it will be a long process without ping help. I can look for a successor site later, but it would be great to be able to dump 20 links because the page or even the site no longer exists.
