Veri Id is who supplies these tests to the FIs. It is extremely prone to problems, which is why most places have alternatives. Actually I'd be a little worried about there being other issues with a loan company that did business without any alternatives. (JMHO - I work in the financial industry.) Sadly there don't seem to be a lot of ways to do online verification.
