So what makes a hero?

Sherwood Smith was talking about heroes -- what makes them, what kinds we pass through from the beginning of our reading journey, where we might end up -- and she brings up one of the SF genre's most interesting heroes, Miles Vorkosigan, who overcomes a life of physical trials and pain to become an interesting -- and cunning -- man who is more of a hero than most. She speaks a bit about the newest Miles book from Bujold, CryoBurn.

And did you know that Ursula LeGuin is blogging over at Book View Cafe? She's not so sure about this blogging business, since she doesn't think her schedule allows responding to questions. But she is offering up a lot of interesting things about modern life, questions worth pondering.

Sherwood's BVC review is here: http://blog.bookviewcafe.com/2010/10/31/heroes-and-miles/
