Was Santa, the old man with a long white beard, dressed in red and white, hailing from the north, actually a shaman? Does his magic come from the Amanita muscaria mushroom?

I loved books about Christmas, and as I grew older, I got my hands on books about all the legends, including some of the oldest where sacrifice was involved. But I don't think I've stumbled over this theory before, and I love it. Christianity worked so hard to kill European Shamanism, and Santa slid right in under the radar.

I've been a fan of the Emerald Rose song "Santa Claus is Pagan Too" for some years. :)
