One--I should mention that I have been a guacamole brain for a month, plus out of town for five days...so if something happened in that time that I should know about, or haven't commented on, and you think I would have, please bring this to my attention. Because there's no guarantee I'll get the past Friends pages read...

Two--It's July. And that means I will get to buy myself a birthday present sometime this month.

New books coming out--Janet Evanovich's new Stephanie Plum, Laura Anne Gilman's new Wren book, Kim Harrison's new Witch book, and the new Harry Potter.

Hi! You probably don't remember me, but we met once at a Dallas Fantasy Faire and at a get-together at the end of the con, because you were the Writer's Digest Novel Course instructor for my friend Linda D. and were also a guest of honor at that con--we sought you out and got our copies of your books autographed. (This must have been 1989 or thereabouts.) Obviously, you made an impression on me. ;) Anyhow, glad to hear you have a chapbook out! And happy birthday in advance. My aunt's birthday is coming up in a few days--her 82nd birthday--and she just got out of the hospital, so we're really thrilled. We can't decide whether to get her a Palm Pilot or an MP3 player. (Hee--she can't even figure out her satellite TV remote, so she watches the Home & Garden network most of the time).

Speaking of new books, I just picked up a copy of Robert Heinlein's first novel at Target. Somehow, someone came across a copy of his old first novel, never published before. And they conveniently waited for him and his wife to be gone before they "found" it and declared he would have wanted it in print. (wry grin) But I enjoyed it immensely. It has the usual RAH flaws as seen from a feminist perspective, but it's also a fun read, despite its being (to some extent) an Ayn Rand-like series of lectures like one of those 1950s classroom science films where somebody explains stuff to little Tommy rather than an actual novel. But then I have always had a weakness for RAH, anyway.

Actually, I remember that Linda was with friends when I met her--but the medical condition I've been dealing with does fry the connections a bit. I might recognize you, I might not. Another good reason to wear the button that reads "Hi, I can't remember your name, either".

Welcome to my occasional posts! I haven't spotted the Heinlein--I've read a lot of his works, but there are still a few I've missed, so I have a body of work yet to work my way through. There were probably good reasons why it wasn't published--I know the characters in Heyer's first romantic historical (which she never reprinted) were rather 2-D. Her son thought her readers would find it interesting--and it was interesting to see an early work. But not good enough to re-read.
