Waiting to hear....
I've heard from writer Darlene Bolesny, who is safe in LaFayette, LA. Ironically, her condo is on the third floor of her building, so it may be all right. But no electricity, no water--New Orleans is not going to be habitable for weeks--months.
Darlene was unable to convince Bob Aspirin to leave with her, although he was weakening in his stance as she left. I hope he's made it to a safe place. Also waiting to hear along the grapevine that Todd Brantley is okay.
It's 4:30 and I'm still up--the insomnia with this treatment is getting worse. Before, I just woke four or five times a night. Now I lay awake for hours until finally falling asleep around this time. So I average 2-4 hours a night. Sleep deprivation is starting to kick in. Time to check with the doctor.

Fundies
Y'all are going to love this one:

Apparently the hurricane was the fault of the wickedness of the city...
And, umm, this doesn't look like a satire site.
Re: Fundies
It's not--I've seen portions of this in some of the political blogs.
The recent survey showing that about 50% of the population believes that the creation story is where it's at profoundly depresses me. And I have no idea how to turn it around--except keeping scientific principals in front of kids.
There's a theory out there that Europe killed its churches and people going to churches by making a state church. Maybe if the fundies keep their hold, in another generation their numbers will start dropping as people seek the freedom to think.
