So, has the pope finally hit the wall with the fundies?

Vatican: Faithful Should Listen to Science

A Vatican cardinal said Thursday the faithful should listen to what secular modern science has to offer, warning that religion risks turning into "fundamentalism" if it ignores scientific reason."

That's an excellent start. Now, if only we could get the *secularists* to pay attention to science, we'd be on a roll!
;-)

We can't even stop the Kansas Board of Education from teaching religion in schools. How are we gonna scare secularists into paying attention? Send up another Sputnik?

As I commented to someone else who sent me this, why would any Fundie give a shit about what a bunch of papists in Rome think? :P

I doubt the Fundies care--I hope the Catholics don't want to be perceived as "Provincial," shall we say.

I expect this to all start mattering when someone in the Senate--could be a Dem, could be a Repub--asks the current SCOTUS candidate what he will do if the pope tells the justices that they'll be excommunicated if they allow Roe v Wade to stand. With five Catholics on the court, that could get interesting in a hurry.

In other Vatican news: Galileo may have been right...

Your link didn't come through--

A good friend who is a diocesan priest told me that they knew Galileo was right way back then--they just didn't think the world was ready yet to hear it, and couldn't convince Galileo it was necessary to sit on the info a century or so. ;^)

So, we're finally ready to hear it?
