Sometimes tarot is eerie....

Occasionally I draw three cards to center myself, and when I do it at the end of the evening, it's 50-50 whether I finish up at tarot.com or go to my decks. Tonight I asked something to the effect of "what are the chances of success at the endeavor I'm contemplating" (not exactly writing...but I am just a person who needs to have a plan for the future at all times, so I'm thinking about how I'm going to earn money if the massage therapy becomes impossible and if the writing portion of the brain doesn't come back online.)

Notice I said nothing to myself about medical problems, recovery etc.

#1
Nine of swords

Position: Self

Take time to honor your feelings as you heal from devastating circumstances. Allow yourself to look forward to the future with optimism.

The card in the Self position reveals aspects of how you perceive yourself right now.

The Nine of Swords in this position portrays a person suffering the lonely grief of abandonment or bereavement, and perhaps a sense of panic due to loss of power and position. Overcome with feelings of helplessness, he or she is beset with fear of what might happen next.

No matter what may have happened in your situation, all meaning is not lost from life. You can and will recover from setbacks. To do so, you must overcome pessimism. As you recover from misfortune, you will see the way clear before you. Give yourself time to explore your feelings, and you will awaken tomorrow with confidence in the future.

The Empress

Position: Situation
Main (positional) Meaning:
A magnetic soul draws others with beauty and abundance.

The card that lands in the Situation position refers to social or circumstantial factors which could be affecting your life at this time.

A charismatic individual in the environment may be attracting people like bees to a flower. This kind of person helps us realize the importance of being inspired and having high ideals.

This is a valuable person to have around as he or she radiates boundless love for everyone to be nurtured by. Seek to emulate the beautiful gifts of this individual and create harmony in your environment by gracefully accepting all that you bring into your life.

#3
The Star

Position: Challenges/ Opportunities
Main (positional) Meaning:
Self-knowledge gives you personal power and wise judgment.

The card that lands in the Challenges/Opportunities position refers to ways that you can turn obstacles into stepping stones.

The Star in this position challenges you to lend credence to the inner voices of wisdom. They deserve your attention. In the intuitive arts, one walks a fine line between self-delusion and inspiration.

This card is a positive affirmation of the trustworthiness of your intuition and the guidance you have received. Trust Spirit, as Spirit entrusts you with an expanded view of your assignment. You are growing into your original nature and expressing it in the world.

Currently enjoying http://www.tarot.com. They do have free, three-card readings--you just have to dig a bit for them.

I was going through my filters this evening, and noticed you weren't in any of them, meaning I'd probably forgotten to ask you if you wanted to be included. Mostly they just filter the potentially TMI bits of my life so people don't have it come up on their f-list if they aren't so interested in that bit of my life. With the exception of my Nursing stuff filter, everything else is likely to show up on a non-filtered mirror of my journal anyway, so I'm not posting anything particularly secret. ^^

Anyhow, let me know there are any filters on this list you'd like to be able to read, and I'll add you to them. ^_^

BDSM
Nursing stuff
Poly & related
Pagan
Sexuality
Poetry

Here we come to the problem of the public me versus the private me. And there's another sub-devision--the Writer who will attempt to read and understand almost anything, versus the person who writes books often recommended for young adults--and perhaps the YAs are not quite ready for Adult Swim, shall we say. (Of course, S doesn't censor much on her journal, ekk....)

As I understand it, once the filter is off for, say, me, that means anyone who goes through my LJ can go to my friends page and see what I see, yes?

Since I put my handle in the latest chapbook, I think I must say I'd be delighted to be added to your Nursing, Pagan and Poetry lists, but must regretfully decline the others--at least right now. If the day comes where I need a public and private LJ, I'll create a private one, and this will become the public one. Then I could be on all your lists.

If while writing I hit a point where I'd like another human view on poly and/or sexuality that friends can't answer, I'd probably post it to my private list. Feel free to chime in at that point! ;^)

People can only see posts on your friends list if the postings are open to them normally.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 07:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ah--that's good to know. And I wonder how they can detect that...

"As I understand it, once the filter is off for, say, me, that means anyone who goes through my LJ can go to my friends page and see what I see, yes?"

Actually, no. Anyone who goes through your friends list can see only what your friends post publically. If I post something to one of my filters, only the people that *I* have listed as being in that filter can see it, and only when they are logged in. Anyone looking at my journal right now, for instance, would not see the entry posted to my pagan filter last night, unless they were a) logged in and b) listed on my friends list AND in that filter. Make sense? It is Friend's Locking something, taken a step further.

I'll go ahead and add you to the Nursing stuff, Pagan, and Poetry filters, and if you decide you want on the BDSM, Sexuality, and/or Poly & related filters, just let me know. ^_^

Ah, the interesting whys and ways of LJ! I think I'll start with those three, and then see how overwhelmed I am--I have a lot of people's wonderful info streaming through my life.

I may have to break down and become a paying account, for extra pics and filters and junk...

[identity profile] ladypoetess.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
*grins* I fully understand. I have specific reading filters - with all the people and communities on my list, I can't possibly keep up with them all, all the time. When I got to the point I would check LJ, go away for 4 hours, and come back and have to go back 80+ entries on my friend's page to get to where I'd last been reading, I decided I needed to break things up a bit. ^^;;

I don't post much to my filters, mostly because I don't post to my LJ, period, nearly as much as I used to. You have been added to the Pagan, Poetry, and Nursing stuff filters. The Nursing stuff filter is the only one I really need to be careful with, preserving patient privacy, etc. I don't give personally identifying information about my patients there, but I still stay careful about confidentiality - which is why it doesn't get copied to my unlocked journal mirrors.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think I need to learn about the filters, too--I want to keep up, and enjoy LJ, but I don't want it to become a burden--that's why I keep it as a free account. If I paid for it, I might feel compelled to post every day--it might become a burden.

You'll note I almost never mention massage therapy, for similar reasons--patient privacy. Some of my clients are friends, or friends of friends. Not sure I could remember to disguise them enough that they wouldn't be recognized by others on-line.

I can usually find enough to write about!

There you go - pretty much everything you need to know about friends list filters, both for reading your own list, and for posting so that just specific people on your friends list can read the entry.

I got a paid account initially for the extra icons. ^_^ I keep it because I like being able to make phone posts, upload pictures, etc.

This sounds good.

You heal in your own good time. Frustrating as it is, you can't rush the process.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Overall, yes, it does. But I've been sick a long time (by my definition--can't write) and I'm in insurance hell and the writing floats out of reach-- A tiring place to be.

On the other hand, I retain hope that healing, most of it, is a possible thing. And that there will be interesting and even joyful work in the future.

It's still eerie how often these blasted things can be a small mirror into your life.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the Star is the key there--promising you are indeed working in the right direction. The S9 acknowledges the S*t you have been going through--that it will end up being to some purpose overall--and the Empress says that you are in command.

Good reading. Go and create.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It appears you were not only born to create--you were born to interpret!

May it be so.

Healing first, apparently.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2005-11-14 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I've been reading tarot for close to thirty years, so...

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
A-ha. I've only been looking at it for a year or two. Have a couple of mentors, who don't want me to get too bogged down in traditional interp--want me to LOOK at the cards, and tell what I see there.

But some of the classic interps of different suits/numbers also seem to have merit.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I began with the Feminist Tarot book back in the mid seventies, comparing to traditional, and gradually over the years found my own resonances with the cards.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that's a good plan. After all, that is tarot's greatest strength--we figure out what things mean for us when we need them. Much cheaper than therapy!

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't actually do readings for myself--I stopped that with a wrench back in the early eighties, when I realized I was giving myself a feedback loop of anxieties. Only for others, and never for money.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-15 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I can identify with that. I had to change decks when I realized that was happening. I was using the Haindl deck, which is quite a work of art, and has many ways to be read. But after a friend read for me with Rider-Waite-Smith, I went home and laid it out again, and realized I could never have seen that in my cards. So I got a second deck, and some supplements to keep me from feeling depressed! ;)

I don't read for money, either.
