Haven't had a meme in a while...

Pinched from [livejournal.com profile] suricattus

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want, either good or bad.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

The only interactive memories I have of you are the bits of chit-chatting we've done via comments since I found your LJ and added you.

I guess my first memory would be finding a copy of Night Calls in a stack of books I'd been given (probably because they all had references to vampires in them, as that was my major obsession at the time) and deciding to actually read this book out of the stack. Lo and behold, I found myself completely absorbed by the book, and it became one of my frequent re-reads. I've loaned my copy of the book out to just about everyone I can think of who would enjoy it, and when I first discovered that Kindred Rites existed, I think I actually squealed aloud and hied off immediately to the library to check it out. Had to wait a couple months before I got it, however, as inter-library loans in SE Ohio can be a bit slow sometimes. ^_^

Alton Brown hates butter for baking--says it can trap moisture between
pan and cooking food, I think, read fast--I was considering options...
I use safflower oil w/ sesame seed for stir fry, olive for chilis and
spaghetti sauces, olive for saute, butter for most else.

Anyone who can use Alton Brown against me..... ;)

Silly person.... ;^)

Standing in a circle with you doing a grounding and you pop up with "are you pregnant?" A couple of days before the test came back positive.....of course I misscarried that one but you knew before anyone else did....

That was very bizarre...unlike Allie, I don't get it right every time. But it surprises me how it pops out on occasion.

We'd just bought this house, starting the repair with the little house, and you showed up all ready to tile. Spent the day with you figuring out how to use the tile cutter and the spacers and coming up with a design. Thinking how nice it was of you to spend a nice weekend day doing that.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-11-16 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That was fun, wasn't it? And the design was pretty good coming from decades of tile scraps!

I'd like to plan all our remaining bathrooms for tile designs--but someone else won our 315 mil last night, so it will be a while. ;^)

On the other hand, this leads to that and gives me an idea for something in a book....

So many memories ...

... I remember you sitting at my kitchen table, sipping a cup of tea, saying that you thought a person would have to have an enormously strong self esteem to weather an infidelity in a relationship. It surprised me, because I'd always thought it was a low self esteem that would cause a person to stay in a trashed marriage. An interesting paralax. We were both right.

I have forgotten this, like so many other things of value. But I suspect it still holds--both are true, and perhaps can be true about the same person, though at different points in the relationship.

Did I leave my Egg stuff with you so you'd have extra stuff for guests? W asked if I had beeswax and I said "Yes. Maybe--I think it's at M's house."

At least I haven't unpacked it yet...

%$#@ focus. So, to continue another sidetracked question--you have B on the "Maybe in five years" moving plan?

[identity profile] incandragon.livejournal.com 2005-11-19 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it was a throwaway comment for you. It just made me think ... so I remembered it.

Indeed, yes you did live various pysanky supplies here. I haven't written an egg since I started writing fiction, but I'm thinking I will make a serious effort to do so this season. (Egg season, to my mind, starts immediately after Christmas.) But say the word and I'll pull your stuff out and give it back. Or come over and we can do some together!

Yes, I've got B on the "maybe in five years" plan. My parents are in town and not getting younger, so I'm dragging my feet. Plus, he loves his job. At the moment, he's full of ideas of how in five years he might be able to work for NI in Seattle. There are a lot of things he could do ... a lot of the industries in that area are very important to NI. But we'll see. Five years is a long time.

I'm game, if we can work out a way for me to do it without my clumsiness messing everything up. It may be time for me to buy an egg holder, for example. I think I quietly had one of life's "wake-up" calls in the past few months, without even realizing it. And doing more of what I want, and not worrying about being in what felt like a !#%@ hallway is part of it.

In a weird way, I have the feeling I'm headed for an outstanding door. I just need to be calm and get my focus back for it.

The parents thing is tricky. You want at least one child close, if possible. In my family, I'm am closest to my parents--they're in AZ--and until I met W, I was prepared to relocate out there, when the time came. If course, now, some days I am more incapacitated than they are...one of life's little ironies. But not leaving Jenna to cope, I do see your point. Sometimes it takes more than one child to cope. Are any of B's siblings close to his parents? And you know my objection to Seattle--climate (full spectrum bulbs might not be enough in a temperate rain forest) and housing costs. Affordable is 45 min. from MicroSoft and not made of stone or brick... But the three months that it's beautiful, it is like nothing else on earth. We saw one day like that while there.

Awesome.

Lots of biking, too. And as you say--many possible industries to choose from. They were interested in W, but he's turned them down twice now. Don't know if that door remains open.

Wish that lotto would come along. I'd like that in the bank, just to let grow.... ;^)
