A Chai posting, since brain is on vacation

It’s been a weird day, from feeling great one minute to feeling the I.Q. points ratcheting downward at speed. I was over at Costco's web site looking for slippers for my sister, and noticed something interesting in the navigation at the top of the page. So I clicked on it.

Costco has everything.... :^)

And this, borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] suricattus, who pinched it from a list (thanks, Walter Jon Williams, for discovering true weirdness for today.) Add this to the “I’m speechless” category:

And finally this, from [livejournal.com profile] marthawells. What was this man thinking, and now what will he do with his education and life?

I'm a simple girl at heart; if I can't be scattered on the rosebushes, I'd opt for

Costo Caskets. Very... strange.

Okay, the second link was pretty bizarre, too.

And that last one is just... I'm speechless. Did he seriously think nobody would notice???

And of course the irony is, no one did notice until he grew so bold he paraphrased something that someone was bound to recognize. The question is, why didn't anyone catch it sooner?

It has happened recently, in the romance field--and I haven't read everything in my field, I might miss one. Back in the 60s-70s, I think it was, someone re-typed The Thirty-nine Steps and submitted it, just to see if anyone would still buy something like that, much less recognize it.

No one recognized it, and no one bought it, although he got some nice compliments. Then, when it was revealed to the editors, they were ruefully amused, but said they still wouldn't have bought it--it wasn't perceived as what would sell at that time.
