Read This--Please

If you read no other commentary in 2005 on how the government is currently working, read this editorial. It does not matter if you are liberal or conservative, republican, democrat, libertarian, greenie--you must read this.

Let's put it this way: picture your worst nightmare as president. Dick Cheney? Hillary Rodham Clinton? Ann Coulter? Michael Moore?

Then understand that Bush thinks he has these powers as president.

This is indefinite dictatorial power. And I don't use that term lightly; the very definition of a dictatorship is a system that puts a ruler above the law. In the weeks after 9/11, while America and the world were grieving, Bush built a legal rationale for a dictatorship. Then he immediately started using it to avoid the law.

This is too scary for words. Makes me begin to wonder if he'll look for a way to cancel elections in 2008.

I have no doubt that they'd love to come up with a way to do that--but so many people, conservative and liberal, now want him out, plus he's behaved so badly handing out money, there's no way anyone can leave the tax cuts for his buddies the way they are--I don't think it will happen. The RR needs to find another candidate, since Bush talked a good line but didn't deliver. The conservative movement will be lucky if it's not out of office another 20-40 years.

We MUST get a paper trail for the ballot boxes. Or we will never have a democratic election again.
