So you're thinking about opening a Jane Clinic . . .
It's addressed to the women of South Dakota, and the writer is not writing satire. She's about information, and informed choices. This is scary stuff, and sounds real. Why do I publish this link? I'm a writer, and I never know when knowledge will aid a story -- or a life.
Also, as one commenter put it: If US politicians understand that we are serious about the need for choice, it may keep abortion a legal choice. Safe, rare, and legal -- that's what I think it should be. But South Dakota is about to change that.
Warning -- this is specific writing about how to perform a D&C. Do NOT follow this URL if you are not prepared for clinical description.

I'd hoped that we would never need this information again. Several friends have been forced to have abortions -- because of tubal pregnancies, contraception failures, or life-threatening health. It's a sad place to be, but I would be even sadder if the two whose lives were threatened had died of their pregnancies.
Knowledge is power. So is prayer. We need both.

Unfortunately, I believe this is possible. I know my cousin nearly died because she could not find a doctor willing to do a third term abortion -- not in three states, not even with her father being a well-known retired surgeon, not even with her Ob/Gyn saying it was a dangerous pregnancy and that the fetus would die on delivery. So she had to carry it until her body expelled it, she and her husband on pins and needles those last two months, her husband wondering if he would lose her and have to raise their first two children alone.
Abortion is never happy or pretty. But sometimes it's necessary.
Some people seen to think that good B/C options and RU486 will make abortion obsolete. Not as long as the poor can't afford chemical B/C, and live where RU486 is not sold.
