Retrospective
I have now been moved for five weeks. I am mostly coherent--I have most of the kitchen found (at least W's stuff...I have stuff I haven't seen for a year in other hiding places...) The addition is finished, except for one wall in the bathroom. Turns out it has been textured and primed, but not painted. I discovered this the day before I left town, so have not called the contractor yet. Smaller things I will do myself--but I think I will call him about a wall.
LaSofia is going to do sandblasted mirrors for the bath. She has this wonderful idea about a dragon skeleton/fossil coming out of the rock of the chimney and oozing onto the mirror as a dragon--but figures she can't bring her equipment to the bathroom. Well...maybe we should get a thinner, hangable Texas stone that we hang next to the mirror on one side, and blast the fossil into *that* stone? I like the fossil idea.... In the meantime, she's thinking about all the stone--hadn't realized we had so much on the chimney rock showing in the bath.
Addition and bath look cool--I am very pleased. Bath is larger than we visualized, but this is not a bad thing. Work room still looks good-sized. I'm now thinking about a curtain for the computer area, as opposed to a curtain for the massage area. (Maybe a curved shower rod!) There's only some kind of privacy area for the french doors by the bathroom to worry about--and making the paper screen to insert in the bath window. Newsprint for now. I hung the spiderweb beveled glass in the sidelight of the French window by the bath--it looks like it was designed for the space.
Was unpacking one or two boxes a day--continuing to sweep out shelves and do liner paper (light contact for shelves--these people never cleaned ANYTHING. I do not consider myself the best housekeeper in the world, but really!)
Hands not taking the move well, even though I was good and have not been lifting huge boxes. Made a serious mistake last week--used vinegar and newsprint to clean some windows. My hands swelled at the joints to the point that my RMT trade partner said "What have you been DOING?" Took massage and drugs to calm hands.
I understand that Maisie, who is in the addition while we're gone, pushed over all my clean sheets onto the floor. Told M not to worry about washing, I have time to clean sheets Sunday before Monday clients. Perhaps plastic stacking boxes in order for shelves.... RMT who does this with shelves does not have cats.
Since moving in we've had the washer not work properly, the half bath require new faucets (leaking, they don't make the O ring for it anymore...) the hot water heater went out, the garbage disposal froze--we flooded again in the garage... In desperation, I invited friends over to do a house blessing. So, a pagan-Shinto-Native American-Celtic ceremony has been performed. And oddly, yet appropriately, we feel better about the place. W hid during the ceremony, but was happy to have it done!
Slowly feeling like home, but we have GOT to find our clothing this week when we get back. First, the master closet (small) was not done. Now, we have boxes, etc. keeping us from getting to the other closets to hang things!
