Once again, I'm hearing voices from the past . . . .

I keep hearing Bill Clinton saying: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman!"

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2006_04/008576.php

"So Bush did know about the leak, and he did authorize it. What's more, his excuse is a simple one: he wanted to defend himself against attacks on his war policy, so it was OK.

That's exactly what happened, but it's remarkable that he's willing to admit it. Basically, Bush is saying that it's all right for him to selectively leak classified information whenever he feels it would help him politically." (Italics in quotes are Kevin Drum's italics.)

Is everyone okay with this? Even real conservatives? Or only when it's "our" side doing it?

redstate.org, littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog, and finally tacitus.org.

little green footballs is sort of like Free Republic, only a bit more organized. fairly frothing at the mouth rightwing.

redstate started out more reasonable, and when user Tacitus (and original founder) spun off to create his own .org, redstate seemed to skew a bit more frothy to the right.

thankfully, tacitus.org offers some real debate. This is the only post, across all three sites, that I saw on the matter:

The comments are thoughtful, too. [no, I don't think he's spot on, but I do like how he engages in constructive debate via those comment threads]

Some good comments in there. I think Tacitus is bending over backwards to explain the actions of the executive branch -- and it's hard to see an oncoming train when you're looking the other way.

Indeed; I think he suffers from very understandable reluctance to ponder other angles.. he jumps to one plausible explanation (that paints the Admin in negative light) .. but he doesn't really open himself up to "What would motivate these turkeys to behave so egregiously poorly?"

Maybe as time passes he'll open up more...
