About that movie....

"My spine hasn't softened against al Qaeda. If anything, I want to defeat what they represent more now than ever.

"So why the resistance to seeing it? Perhaps it's a religious impulse. In some ways, I regard the acts of those men and women to be an almost sacred moment in the history of America and of freedom. And sometimes, the sacred is best respected through silence. Sometimes, the greatest deeds, like the most monstrous acts, are best left unrepresented. They stand alone. They demand to be left alone. One day, commemorate. But do not so swiftly represent. Shakespeare often left the greatest moments in his plays off-stage. They have more power there."

At this point, I don't think I will see this movie, even if it's well done. I'm not ready yet. I saw the second plane hit the tower unexpectedly, a shot up from the streets. I saw the towers collapse.

I don't need any help to remember that day.

Ah, finally someone's able to articulate my outrage. Thank you.

If they really wanted to respectfully dramatize the event, they should do it 20 years hence for people who weren't there, like our children. We don't need a dramatization; we're still recovering from the original drama. To do it this soon smacks of crude, opportunistic sensationalism.

Yes, I tend to agree. For the sake of friends who were in NYC and watched it unfold outside their windows -- and it took the lives of many of their friends -- I hope it is a good movie.

But I doubt they'll go, either. I mean, think of this -- you lose a dozen of your friends and acquaintances in one hour. It's like our ancestors, who all went and enlisted and served in the same battalion in a war -- and suddenly, a dozen young men from your village will not make it home.

But I've never seen any Vietnam films, either. I saw that at dinner every night. I read Doonesbury. Don't need any fiction about it, thanks.
