Another con bites the dust....
ArmadilloCon was pleasant this year--Got to spend time with CJ Mills, Alexis Glynn Latner, and Lee Martindale and her silent spouse George, among others. Good talks with Barbara Hambly and Howard Waldrop were on the schedule, and a bit of visiting with Martha Wells, her spouse Royce and also Lillian Stewart Carl. Didn't get to see enough of Elizabeth Moon, KD Wentworth or Carrie Richerson. Did briefly meet Kay Kenyon, Sharon Shinn and Paul Niles, though, and would enjoy speaking with them again.
Good panels, good readings, and fun in the dealer's room--limited myself to three paperbacks and a teeshirt, and bought a Xmas present for a friend. W used resistance and bought nothing--he had a big expense this weekend, and just couldn't bring himself to spend money! %^)
Turns out I'm not the only one whose favorite Hambly book is BRIDE OF THE RAT GOD. Others were loud in their praise. Turns out Barbara has had an outline of a sequel for five years! But historicals and mysteries are paying the mortgage right now, so there you are. She's trying to get the rights back to get it reprinted in small press format--
Found out several friends are dealing with a stalker--they have restraining orders out. I am grateful that has never happened to me--these friends are either proficient in martial arts, or very good fencers--so if the individual goes beyond harassment, he'll get a painful surprise. I don't have either of these skills.
I suppose, in the tradition of stereotype, that as a Texan, if he messed with me, I'd just have to get a shotgun and shoot him like the varmint he'd be. But since I don't own a shotgun, well....how about an attack Burmese?
Saw the greatest tattoo in the world this past weekend--not one of the gorgeous, colorful flowery ones, this was a slightly squashed tomato with sewing and safety pins stuck into it--a tomato pincushion! The person has had a ton of medical stuff in the past year, and said it described her mood. So, if I can get a pic of it, it will become one of my LJ pics!
The good news is, Meisha Merlin apparently got their financial backing, and found an NA distributor. Could a contract finally happen in the next couple of months? I sure as heck hope so....
