Taking a right turn in my political letters.

I'm sure many of you are receiving tons of e-mail from various groups you have written letters for, or signed petitions for, or even given money. Well, the latest one I feel VERY strongly about. I will not allow the president of this country to torture people and claim we said it was all right.

#$%@ that. Well, since my usual articulate pleas, pointing out drawbacks, etc. haven't gotten me even a simple reply about the same topic, I have chosen a different path.

If you are easily offended with religious humor, do NOT click on this link.

I imagine that many of you have thought the same thing. But I haven't seen a bumper sticker for it yet. It may be going too far. But I did insert it into the front of the latest letter. If you like it, use it, alter it -- get your rep's attention any way you can!

Begin letter:

Yesterday a friend cynically proposed a bumper sticker saying "Who would Jesus torture?"

My god does not torture people anywhere, for any reason. And my government better not be doing it, either. We claim our way of life is better. If that's true, then stop following the terrorists into the gutter and set an example!

(Here followed the rest of that group's default letter.)

I haven't been emphasizing my spiritual nature, because it is not for casual public scrutiny. But this has gone too far. We're talking war crimes.

I hope you are ALL registered to vote. Think of it this way -- if Bush supporters are fed up with his work, they probably won't vote for his followers. They'll stay home. So you must go and vote for a replacement for whatever bootlicker is currently your rep. I'd vote to get rid of almost all if them -- they led us to this place. If you have a moderate of either party and you like how they're asking question, then stay with that candidate.

But don't send an extremist from any party there. Because we cannot afford another two years of this. The national debt has gone from 20 billion to 43 billion in six years. The white house is using the same buzz words they used to invade Iraq.

Your children will have this crippling debt to repay. Your children will be forced, by a draft, to fight wars on three fronts.

It's your country. Take it back!

at the very least, it would make an interesting and conversation-provoking banner for Livejournal...

(I've already done my ranting on this topic directly to my congresscritter.)

Some times I feel that the strength of the US system (no one individual is allowed to remain for long enough to become an Institution) is also our greatest weakness -- it teaches us to be passive, to wait four or eight years, and then start the cleanup...

Yes, I often feel that way. Perhaps we polarize as we get older because we're tired of cleaning up after the adult-sized children . . ..

Here ya' go.

I mean what's better than a letter about your friend, when you can include the sticker?

Ooooo

Very nice -- and we can have only one printed!

I wonder if it's illegal to run around parking lots slapping these things on cars? There was this guy in CA doing that to SUVs ("I'm changing our environment! Ask me how!" including the web page explaining how much crap an SUV dumps into the atmosphere...)

I also like the one on sale at the Nielsen-Hayden's cafe site.
