So -- kraken or espionage?

In the past week four of the undersea cables that handle Internet voice and email have been cut or shut down. The mainstream media had not caught on as of boingboing.net today. What's your guess? Sabotage so a few somebodies can get taps into the cable? The kraken got tired of the reverb on the ocean floor? Earthquake?
