Deborah J. Ross on when a story isn't ready to be told -- or can't be told yet because you don't have the skills, or the heart, to tell it as it should be told. What do you do?

Someday I'll talk about how my brain did an end-run around me to help me start writing down a story...but not as I expected to tell it.

So, I have done my taxes the intuitive way this year -- that's using only what's in Quicken, on credit card receipts, etc. Have somehow misplaced my tax file in the move (ARGH!) and instead of panicking, tried to do things another way.

I am down to a dirt cheap payment. I could put money in the IRA, but it's a laughable amount. Thinking about just paying the amount and getting back to writing.

That sounds good. And an ES-1, trusting that books will sell this year.

WHEEEE!

I have the bestest people in my life! I was telling a friend that I had become a Jazz junkie while I was ill -- Cable music is good for something -- and that I was in love with sax player Dave Koz's work. Seemed like every time I'd hear someone new whose stuff I liked, the sax player on it was Dave Koz.

So he's coming to One World Theater. I thought, Maybe I can swing $30 for the ceiling or something. I was going to check to see if anyone wanted to go.

Clearly it's been a while since I've done a concert, and never at One World. Well, my friend has a new IPhone (his first) and was tracking down the info online while we talked. And discovered that tickets start at $50.

Out of budget, sigh. So, maybe another time.

The next day I check my email -- and there's a ticket for the concert! SECOND ROW! (I have no idea how big this place is, I'm gonna pack earplugs just in case!) With a note attached that said Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas/Happy Easter and so on.

He's done something like this twice in the many years I've known him -- just decided I needed something and arranged it.

It is such a lovely thing to do. I am blessed in my friends.

I get to go to Dave Koz's show! I just have to figure out how to handle the ticket. Although One World sells gift certificates, apparently their system doesn't allow you to put someone else's name on a ticket -- only the card holder. So I need to call and find out how to handle it.

Boing Boing boing!
