Gmail, mail etc.

Does anyone happen to know about clearing the in-box? I have a lot of things I want somewhere else, but when I save them to that group and delete the in-box version, the message goes into Trash and is no longer in the second location.

I thought I'd just figure it out, but with so much going on, my brain isn't interested in figuring out the answer. Clearly research is in order.

Label (Group) the messages then Archive them.

Sweet!

Add the label, and then archive it. It disappears from the inbox and still exists under the label (and in the archive).

Brilliant -- I hadn't tried groups yet!

What you need to do with Gmail is not delete them, but archive them.

You don't actually create a second copy, you just attach a specific label to the message. When you archive them, that removes them from the inbox, and keeps them from being deleted. You can attach multiple labels to the same message, as well - it is much handier than having just specific folders you can put a message in. For example, I have messages that come from a specific website that I want to keep labeled as being from that site, but occasionally want to sublabel them as Inspirational messages, Recipes, etc. I attach the labels I want to them, then hit the Archive button. You can access specific catagories through the list on the left, and find all the messages you have previously labeled and archived.

Archiving messages is how you get them out of your inbox without deleting them.

1. Label them, if you want to. (I think that's what you mean by "saving them to a group".)
2. Select the messages individually, or go to the group/label. (You can click on the link in the green Labels box on the left, under the Quick Contacts box, and select All.)
3. In the white drop-down Action box (to the right of the Delete button), choose Archive.

That'll get it out of your inbox without deleting the messages.
