Discussing languages created by a linguist who created worlds so someone would speak his languages

The professor would be pleased and amused, I think.

You know...if I had been just a bit more Tolkien-obsessed and a little less interested in my own dreams and stories, I might have ended up a PhD linguist writing as a hobby language books for created languages.

Y'know...

when I first was inventing the language for my first book, I looked around the room, picked an object and rearranged the letters...lol. Then I had a chance to take a Languages of Science Fiction class in college, and redid the whole thing. It was much more fun when I had rules and structure to follow, even if no one else would ever see those rules or know the grammar behind my choices. :)

Yes, I used German phonics and Latin suffixs with the Nualan universe. I think I'd go straight to Susette Hayden Elgin's website if I was going to design a language today...which a future book may require.
