Animal food recall --

There has been a major recall of pet food. There is a problem with the type of food that is 'cuts in gravy' little slices in cans or packets. Animals are dying of renal failure.

Dry food and ordinary canned food are safe, but there's a very long list of brands with both pouch and canned varieties. Some of these foods are also for dogs -- something like a dozen of each species have died.

They are blaming it on a new supplier, who they are no longer using. But it's frightening, nonetheless. First, for the dogs and cats affected. And second, to see the number of brands that one company can impact. From foods that I would consider "cost cutter brands" to high end foods (like Iams, etc). Makes you stop to think...

I was very nervous, because they had just clocked a blip in Merlyn's kidney enzymes. But it was just his age and need for less protein -- not the food.
