Doing Taxes....

I hate %$## taxes. I have always had complicated taxes, because I file Schedule Cs, and I invest when I have the money, and sell things when I need money, and so on. So, I'm ready to print the stupid thing, and once again it wants to know why my car use is less than last year.

Because I'm sick and my business has faded and now closed and the car is parked in the driveway needing $3000 of work it won't get, because it's a 1995 Mazda I bought in 9/94? Isn't this enough?

I bought TurboTax originally just to keep track of depreciation. I did a straight line 5/year on the car, because it was 3.5 years old when I started using it! But I always let the system do it, because they change the rules on depreciation every 4-5 years just to make sure we lose a weekend to doing taxes.

Does anyone get theirs done on these extra sheets faster than I do? No -- I don't do carry-over from Quicken, because a few times lines have changed. do NOT want to go there.

Yes, they do keep up with these things. So far I've always been right, until they asked for $35.04 more in July of 2006 for my 2005 taxes.

But it may be time to get an accountant. That hasn't worked out before, for amusing reasons I won't go into. But I can always try again!

I will go mail W's, and weigh my last year's for postage...grumble....

I get so confused when you use icons I've come to associate with other people. I thought this was from Bev! Y'all have very similar situations, you know ... car trouble, illness, changes in work. I got confused when she referenced "W" though ...

Ah, you have found me out --

I sent Bev the cat, because it was so perfect for her, and told Martianmooncrab about the fuzzy lobsters. But I needed a grumpy pic, and I needed a space alien thing (I AM a SF writer, you see...) So I gave them an exclusive for a few months, and then started using them.

I need to come up with a few only for me. Now that -- TA DA! -- I found my Photoshop notes, this may happen...

(Found the pacific squid story first, but Silona had to have a squiddie, so I waited on that one, too.)

And I expect you to eventually lift my eggs one, or make your own! ;^)

Oh, pish. It's not that the icons are the same, it's that the *problems* are the same. The icon just didn't help!

There does seem to be a lot of people with health problems, doesn't there? And here's a curious one for you...they're starting to wonder if the problem with the massive bee die-off is cell phones.

So...if it's right, are they effecting us, too? And if they are -- can we figure out how to shield them fast enough, or do we need to stop using them -- because we NEED the bees.

I try to use my default for writer posts. It's always me, until someone borrows it!

The first year Martha and I had mutual funds and she a 401K, Turbotax was useless. I just guessed at what I was doing. After that, we got a tax accountant to does it all for us. Worth every penny. For instance, rather than depreciating things like computers and printers, he showed there was a way to take the entire cost off at once. Best advice I can give you is to dump the software and get an accountant.

I discovered why a friend always uses government per diem for food, instead of keeping receipts. I see a good accountant in my future. Last time I tried to get one, I even paid her for a meeting so I could be sure we would do well together. She was ecstatic that I kept things like the percentage of my AMTA membership that wasn't deductible in a separate category, etc. She seemed ready for my two Schedule Cs and that I was involved in a divorce.

Then she sold her business to people who sent me something on only one of my Schedule Cs, nothing on the joint assets -- so I'd wasted $75, and was still doing our taxes that year.

Bah...
