Busy, busy --

It was a steady weekend of accomplishing things that needed doing.

Some planting -- I found some fresh tarragon and dill, so more planting tomorrow -- as well as shocking the pool, and tidying it for guests today, Memorial Day. Ironically, no one swam -- we had still another downpour this am, and no one thought it would clear enough to swim! But a few special friends came over for burgers and chicken apple sausage -- quite good. (A large portion of folk were at Flipside, so we carried on without them.) I was too busy playing hostess, and ended up eating half a hamburger. I kept getting there after they'd disappear, make a couple more, and then they'd disappear again -- sheesh! I nibbled on some Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, and it was tasty. I liked the traditional with strawberry topping best. The chocolate was good, but I make a better one. The White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle had fans, as did the Snickers cheesecake.

Makes me want to cook a nice pumpkin cheesecake, or a traditional cheesecake with orange-cranberry topping. I have the ingredients to make a flourless chocolate cake -- maybe for Odd Friday? We'll see!

Was unfortunately ill some of the weekend -- took two, 90 minute naps Saturday (I think it was) trying to settle self out. Insomnia has been bad. We visited Sunday with [livejournal.com profile] tia_tarina and [livejournal.com profile] dragonherder1 who are working on addicting us to the ninth season of Dr. Who. I like the ninth doctor, which is a bit of a shame, because he went into it doing only one year. I think fandom freaks him a bit! W & I brought sweet potato fries, and we had a nice dinner of pork loin and applesauce, with wonderful frozen custard and blueberry sorbet for dessert. They also introduced W to Delta Blues, the one Blue Bell flavor sold outside Texas that is NOT sold here -- or wasn't until an Austin Chronicle reporter found this out and had a paper fit -- Blue Bell is Texas ice cream! And we should get a crack at every flavor!

W found it excellent. [livejournal.com profile] tia_tarina has gone through about 3 gallons in the two months since she moved back into town. I think Delta Blues has new fans.

In all of this, I got nine pages of SPIRIT TRACKS written, and more Spider Goddess notes. Lord, it covers several hundred years -- I promised the spider goddess a story about the middle bits -- didn't expect the story to start two years earlier, and run on through multiple books. Apparently, these snips are the pebbles before the avalanche....

More writing planned for today/Tuesday.

I hope you all gave a thought and a prayer to the brave men and women, both Americans and our allies, who are fighting to make a better world...no matter what bill of goods they were sold. Always remember that: the commanders say march, and the foot soldier says "Which direction?" Keep them in your thoughts, because no matter what we think of this war, those kids did what they were told to do -- and we want them all home safe.

Sounds like a great weekend all around!

So ... what flavor is Delta Blue?

I just double-checked, it's Delta BLues, which was what I thought it should be -- but it's blueberry ice cream with pie crust mixed in, so there's my confusion with Blue/Blues. Kinda like instant cobbler -- you might ask W, tia tarine or Dragonherder1 -- they all had some!
