Travel (From the stack of "I forgot to mention")

While flying back from my vacation this year, I checked luggage. When I got home, I found a sticker on my airport tags.

"Transportation Security Administration" in red & white wrapped around a blue and white eagle that says "The Department of Homeland Security".

Notice the "The".

Finally, a wider yellow circle with the abbreviation for the airport of origin, and the words Cleared. They didn't open the bags this time (unless they've stopped leaving cards saying they visited.)

And a friend, while sitting in the Austin airport reading a book, waiting for the first leg of her overseas flight, was asked to stand and be wanded. She tells me this happens all the time. I suspect that, mother of college students or not, she has dreamboat eyes and any idiot man with the authority to get her attention will try to do so.

Crazy world.

These things always make me want to put them away for the future, because ephemera like this are exactly what gets thrown away. But then I think, what if this kind of thing is even more common in the future? And I throw the stupid thing away, just for luck.

I had the same thought, and should have photographed it -- but I tossed it, and the trash went out AM!

We need to remember that we can chronicle things in a more durable format, if we remember to do it.

Kim & Mark are bringing your eyeglass leash to ArmadilloCon. It'll be $10. I think it came out very nicely, and should go well with that red sari.

Great!

Thanks for getting around to it. Sorry you guys won't be here -- I need a teeshirt or two, I keep killing mine. But I know it's probably not a good con for you. (But friends do exist who don't go to ArmadilloCon because the "dealer room sucks.") ;^)
