I don't know how to take that article. Part of me thinks "Yeah," and part of me thinks "Who the hell do you think you are, lumping together vast reaches of the US like that?"

I am reminded that "chauvinist" was derived from a Frenchman's name.

As in just about everything else I read/see/hear, I am torn.

That sums up my reaction pretty well. I think this illustrates that they understand us no better than we understand them. Which may be why I find culture clashes more interesting in SF than some other types of conflicts.
