Another variant of the Internet Scam --

Flying out the door, but wanted to tell all to pass along that the Internet scammers who have been gouging yoga instructors and massage therapists, among others ( www.texasmassagetherapists.com) are after musicians, too. They got these guys:

Brobdingnagian Bards

Spread the word and cut down on their victims. Remember -- if you don't know them, it might be a scam. And if you bite -- DO NOT SEND BACK MONEY, just sit on it. The check has to clear to be real.

it amazes me that these sort of scam checks clear, when a friend of mine deposited a check from the VA and the bank sat on the money for 2 weeks before they credited it to his account.

They usually don't clear -- once in a blue moon, I think a small check (Under $500) may clear. But those scams are bait scams, the infamous "Nigerian" scams. The first letter is just warming up.

I should have clarified it by saying the bank didnt show the deposit until the VA check cleared.

Yes, although the bank usually warns you that you can't withdraw. (Although they didn't when I got paid by a publisher, and we're talking a bouncing ball of problems. I almost closed the account over that -- if they can't treat known sources (like my agent) as okay, then I will use my UBS account or something.)
