Why in my neighborhood?

Toilet Art in Austin (Click Other)

So far, I have spotted only one commode, sans lid, no flowers -- just perched in someone's front yard snuggled into the legs of a majestic old tree.

I mean, if a tree could blush, you know what would be happening right now.

And the STUPID thing is, there are practically NO restrictions in this neighborhood, except for stone or brick on most of the ground floor. (All facing streets, I think...) That's it. We could open an RV park and it would be legal! But since it was on the street or in the driveway, we had a fracas. Yes, they're large and ugly. Better than six cars in various stages of repair.

UPDATE: There's at least a dozen of them up here, in varying stages of decoration. You can see them around Hereford and points east.

AVANA is also cracking down on weeds and tall grass and any city code it can find all in the name of property value. There are no restrictions on our lot other than the city's.

I hope they don't come after us. Our yard guy is just getting his cutters out. When W & I feel better, more will happen on the south side. But until then, we have a giant lion ant trap....

Property values are dropping for reasons unassociated with property looks. They are trying to find someone to blame and they are getting all finger pointy. Expect it to get worse before it gets better.

Yes -- Austin will probably not be as hard hit as other places, because people are still moving into Austin. But they will drop -- they've been too high for years. All the better reason for us to have talked down the house we bought! I wish we had negotiated for the windows.
