An unusual and yet needed nonprofit --
Want to make a difference in the lives of the brave young men and women fighting in Iraq? Here's a place you should consider for your charity dollars. Soldiers are forbidden to acquire pets while out on deployment, and forbidden to transport them home on military transports. Although I understand that arranging that service could be a real pain in the tush for the services, it seems to me to be a short-sighted decision. If a mascot to a troop lets those soldiers feel normal for awhile; allows them think of better days, and not the horrors they've seen and will see again, then I think some dog and cat crates and a place to hold them for vaccination, etc. could be worked out.
Here's the place and the stories. It's through the international SPCA -- take a look.
