That was really surprising to me, hearing that yesterday. I had just read online about the remake of The Prisoner with Ian McKellan, and then half an hour later I hear about McGoohan.
I was never that much of a Prisoner fan (I tend to like things that are coherent), but loved his other work. I think my favorite was the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh.
