Thought for the day --

"I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the republic which it established, one nation from many peoples, promising liberty and justice for all."

I got this from Wes Struebing, who is on the b5jms list. I believe this is his version.

I like it. This is what is important, people. Not the flag. Not so many other trappings of our country and civilization. This is what the president and our armed forces swear to protect.

It is what makes us different.

I also would accept the preamble to the Constitution as a flag pledge substitute. This is more concise.

I need a constitution icon. In the meantime, the current defender of the constitution. Not a perfect defender, but in my opinion, better than the last one.

What is the literary 'tense' of the replacement term 'promising?'
I'm not sure how to phrase this. Is the rhetorical glass half-empty or half-full?

As a deeply religious person, I'll forego another (more obvious) comment.
