AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGHHH!

#@@%$%!!!#$$ Honking big scorpion that my stupid Chinese flip flop did NOT kill on the wall, and of course Merlyn spotted it on the wall first, and was fascinated. Apparently I dented it enough that reaching over behind the UPS with a flip flop and a fire extinguisher to smash it more into the carpet did the trick. I didn't take any chances -- paper towel plus dust rag to pick it up, and into a sealed sack before entering the trash. Not a black one, but dark, dusty tan scorpion that had a front body segment an inch long and half an inch wide.

Might never have slept here again....

I hope scorpion gut smell will scare away any other ones! It looked like an Arizona bark scorpion, but was probably a striped bark scorpion. And I hope it doesn't have family!

Eeeek! Is this a common problem in your house?

This is a first. I suspect that it somehow hid in the milk crates a friend loaned me. I banged them out, wiped them out, etc. but apparently this guy was good at hiding.

Could be worse. He could have been a brown recluse or black widow, or could have gotten loose in my car! If he'd just jumped off on the stairs, he could have eaten bugs by the front door, which does not seal, of course. Now that I think about it...I noticed something I thought was bark on the stairs, yesterday. Maybe he did jump off when they paused overnight on the staircase. I need to go look and see if the bark is there. Damn my eyes going funny occasionally.

scorpions mortal enemies are chickens. Chickens love eating scorpions and it makes their yolks extra potent. ;)

Sounds like I need to move into a neighborhood that allows chickens, and pick a couple of fancy egg layers as pets! They aren't true macro, but I do love an occasional egg. Hope I get them back.
