And once again, First Check --

. . . as in, a wee bit of a problem.

Can't find the original maps for HIDDEN FIRES. I was going to use alternations of them for FIRES OF NUALA (Warner goofed and didn't put in the maps) but they are deeply hidden. I say hidden because it is an act of will for me to discard any piece of paper. I improve at that skill, but have not mastered it. And . . . the maps in HIDDEN FIRES itself were based on my maps, but were not mine -- so I can't just use them. I have the map for FIRE SANCTUARY, a big monster, but that's it.

Guess who is drawing a map tonight?

I've had a request for a genealogy, too. That might happen, if my attempts to transfer it to PowerPoint go swiftly. I have never used it, but have been told it's fairly easy to master.

Somehow, I am not having a Lyme attack through all this (Hooray!) so maybe it will be easy. If so, it will be thanks to a woodland fairy who has tried to smooth the way for me.

I really need to get these to Vonda as quickly as possible. But tomorrow night is client night, the cat goes to the vet tomorrow, I leave town for a haircut Thursday (It's all John David's fault, he opened a salon in Llano!)and there is Armadillocon this weekend.

Did I mention the character beating on my head with a short story due September 1st?

AAAaarrrrrggghh. . . .

are you back later on Thursday?

I wanted to be a cartographer when I grew up, among other things. I could come visit and make maps with/for you on Thursday evening.

The map may not be the big deal -- it's the genealogy. Solid boxes will take up too much room, and getting adjustable vertical bars, etc. and transparent text boxes is a bitch. I am seriously thinking about graph paper and press type. Wondering if the graph paper will become invisible when copied.

My appointment in Llano is at noon, so I should be back 3ish, and back at work....

When the big map achieves rebirth, is there any chance of purchasing a copy? I enjoy well thought out maps of my favorite worlds, and have always been frustrated by the bowlderized snippets that publishers deign to provide. Nuala is top of the list.

That could be possible eventually. It's a working map, not a work of art, so I'd have to see what you thought of it -- or make a prettier version! Think Bilbo's efforts, although I have no dragons drawn on it, and it's in my own, weird, left-handed lettering.

Sounds like it would be interesting. Working maps are fun.

I love maps. I was a cartographer in a previous life. But I have difficulty focusing very long on a point, so this is a lot harder than it needs to be!

If I were closer I'd volunteer to help. My fingers are crossed on your Allie project, and the e-editions of Nuala.
