Gluten Wars cont.

MY REDKEN SHAMPOO HAS WHEAT?

Maybe it wasn't something I ate...maybe it was washing my hair with this stuff? All these months, it was the shampoo? And they make you read a huge list of things they put in all their products, that MIGHT be in the one you use -- and you get to get a magnifying glass out and look for each one! Well, I'll save you -- The Body Full shampoo and conditioner (like you bought a QUART of the stuff as a cost saver when you last bought?) Drop to the word WHEAT.

ARGH!

I just tried muscle testing this and I about fell on my tailbone.

I am SO not amused.

I'd better check my Kiss My Face hand cleaner, unscented, before I wash away traces of REDKEN and shape these bread loaves!

I feel like such the bearer of bad new for you...

:( I'm sorry, but at least you know what might be contributing to the high numbers that you can't shake off by diet alone. I happen to know what to look for because I helped my ex-bf's mom go gluten-free. and she related more stories.

MOST lipsticks have wheat in them sadly.

Next check....hand sanitizer...many brands have wheat germ oil.

The Kiss My Face unscented hand sanitizer does not have added gluten, but the manufacturing site is not gluten-free -- it about knocked me on my butt, too. Would you like a container of it? ;^) I have three (one back-up, since I thought it was safe to use -- before and after clients!!!) All this time I thought it was fragrance in liquid soaps making my skin turn beet red.

My handmade bar soaps from devonshire are gluten-free! Most of them -- I'm double-checking on the cinnamon-oatmeal, but probably need to give to the Ex-bf. I hear Bath & Body Works stuff all has gluten, everything -- the hand sanitizer I used at dance class must have it.

Not your fault, sweetie -- I was getting to that stuff, I just didn't think it could be effecting me as badly as food, so food was the first priority. But my body may be rejecting gluten in a BIG way.

Whole Foods downtown has a Holistic Aesthetician who apparently is SERIOUSLY gluten-intolerant. They have one or two lines that are gluten-free, in makeup, so I will probably look for a lip gloss and one lipstick tomorrow. LOL! I will be calling Time-Warner this week to unload most of the account because I need that money to replace skin care and cosmetic junk! Hope my freshMinerals and Zuzu eye stuff is okay. Can't find out about Trish McEvoy stuff yet. Nothing on their web site either way, but it muscle tests as neutral.

Yeah I'll be glad to take the stuff off your hands. I hope you have good luck with the makeup!

Have you tried "Everday Minerals"? It's what i use. It's GF and relatively inexpensive. They offer sample packages and is made in austin, tx. I started using everday minerals because I am very hard to find a makeup shade for.

I didn't know about Everyday Minerals -- I've been using Fresh Minerals, and just got a couple of Trish McEvoy eye products. I will be SO annoyed if I can't keep using them, I love the brow shaper. Did you find it on-line, or is it sold in town?

Only found online. I would get samples and muscle test them first.

Trish McEvoy's products are gluten-free! Happy face!

But I also went to EverydayMinerals and ordered a base sample kit. It's probably freezing in my mailbox first.

I am going through similar with anything containing sulfates, and I have to get new soap and shampoos. I really dont want to look at my laundry soap right now.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Ghod, it took me years to find Cheer Free and Clear -- I do not want to find out I can't use it anymore!

[identity profile] martianmooncrab.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
thats what I use, and I have two full boxes in the laundry room.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2011-01-29 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So far I'm not looking for sulfates, just gluten. Hang in there!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's where to check, if you're ready to look:

www.pgproductsafety.com

They do contain sulfites, but is that the same problem for your skin? Serious sympathy!

P & G's cleaning products are all gluten-free, the woman on the line told me. They get that question a lot now, so they're up to date on the answer.

My Mom's been going through this. For her the medications been the hardest. Lush has some really nice shampoo bars and I believe they are still safe. Some of the natural bath products are going to MORE gluten because it's natural. One of Mom's magazines had an article about lipsticks. I can ask her for a citation if you need it. I'm so sorry. :(

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Himalaya's shampoo and conditioner are gluten-free, and WONDERFUL so far. It's the little things that are a problem. Like, what about my Arniflora gel?

From my Mom:

Gluten Free Living
Number1/2010 Lipstick Jumble, Sorting out the concerns about lipstick
and GF diet by Ann Whelan.

www.glutenfreeliving.com

If one is wondering about lipstick, then one has also to worry about LIP
GLOSS! Same issues. Lancome is the only company she lists that says all are
free. Oh, also, Burt's Bees. She talks about some other brands that have
both. Gives phone numbers for Neutrogena and CoverGirl.

I've read Living Without before, but haven't picked up one in a while because I was taking so much out of their recipes, they were useless to me. I've heard that DNC is good -- I know of someone who used it, but because it was pricey and through the mail, I hadn't considered it further. May have to reconsider. Looking into Everyday Minerals right now.

But unless Shaklee has changed the product, my face cream I like from them has to go, and body repair cream for sun damage. I used to use Lancome -- I wonder if my lipsticks are all right, or if that's a recent change? Will check the article. (I got annoyed with Lancome when they got rid of their spokeswoman for being too old. I still want to look like her when I grow up!) All these companies have too harsh makeup removers for me (or were, when gluten/Lyme was at its worst...) Clinique eye makeup remover seems to be the gentlest.

I switched to Arbonne, and most of their stuff I have is all right -- but like you said, I think I have to toss my lipstick, gloss and mascara from there. Funny -- the only things I try first from a company seem to always have gluten. Don't know about Trish McEvoy yet. (The Arbonne line I liked, NutriMinC RE9 things, apparently is no longer made. I don't use things fast enough!)

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2011-02-03 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I may have to go back to the magazine, if they're broadening their horizons. I am sorely tempted to just toss what I have into a sack for the local haunted house people and go to a gluten-free line. The major cosmetics people may have missed the boat. And the splits are funny -- Arbonne's RE9 MIN line had a lot of gluten-free skin care products, and their lip balm/gloss sunscreen is gluten-free. But I don't think any of their lipsticks or mascara are. Of course glutren

I have leads that suggest that two Clinique lipsticks I have are all right -- but Lancome makes you go through their entire list of possible ingredients with what you what to check on, and do NOT have the ingredients on-line, even at the product, so you cannot check easily. I was a big Lancome user once, but I'm not happy with them now.
