About that Earthsea flick...

W and I were worried when we checked the DVR so see if we had the story--and the scene we saw bore no resemblance to anything in the books. Releasing the Nameless Ones? And the guy who had to be Ged, yelling at some cadaver, was a white pretty boy. Huh? Couldn't we have a gorgeous Hispanic guy, at least? Native American? Even Japanese?

Apparently Ursula is sadly disappointed, too...they didn't ask her opinion, either. Which is also why no one's name is pronounced correctly.

But the books will live.

Update: I just found out that they called the main character "Ged" instead of "Sparrowhawk". I'd say this proves they had no understanding **at all** of what the books were about.

No, I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her. Friend of friends, but she stays close to the Northwest for conventions, as far as I know, and she didn't do NorWesCon the year I was there.

I found out last night that they called Sparrowhawk "Ged" the ENTIRE TIME! Well, then how did ANYTHING in book one make sense at all?
