Perhaps I was hasty about renewing here....

Sorry for disappearing -- relapsed. Unamusing.

I was told when I moved in here that 75% of the complex had Time-Warner, and 25% had DSL. Now ATT tells me the address is not in their machine and does not exist. The complex assures me that we exist, and gave me a couple more permutations of the address to bounce off AT&T. The call center was so noisy I could scarcely hear the guy, so I think I will try the customer service line tomorrow and see what they have.

I want to dump all the T-W land line and cable (except the $40 I am trapped with here and cannot convert to High-Speed Internet) and get just high-speed Internet as cheaply as I can. I hoped to have a bargaining position with T-W, but it looks like I won't -- except the old stand-by "I will dump you the minute your competitor hits my area" card. If AT&T can offer HSI for $19.99 if you have any other service, then so should T-W be able to do the same thing.

Going to the library and uploading things would NOT amuse me.

Have you considered Clear Wireless? They're not ideal either, but they're most likely available in your area as well.

Clear is pretty expensive for just the one item, and it's slow Internet, their fast one-item is not as fast as I have -- plus, I'm down in a valley. I can't use my cell phone except on the porch (everyone will be reaching me by Skype when it's cold!) so I don't know if Clear will work for me. But it remains a back-up, if T-W is even more to just keep Internet.

I will probably wait on my decision until after Friday, but I have to economize somewhere to cover the cat meds, and this is the logical place. I'd dump all of cable if I could. But that involved moving, and I'm not strong enough for that.
