The scam artists crawl out of the woodwork....
Just a reminder that scammers are everywhere, unfortunately. Especially when disasters strike. So be careful about sending money to relief organizations for earthquake relief for Japan -- pick a charity you know exists, and go to their site to donate -- and don't open any earthquake or tsunami pics sent to your email from someone you don't know! It could contain malware or a virus! Here's an article, and a couple of legit charities.
Plus -- once again, if you are texting your donations? Verizon and AT&T are once again sitting on donations sent through your phone -- up to 90 days. Public pressure from members of Change.org and others made them release the money quickly after the Haiti disaster. You can go to Change.org here to sign a petition to ask the companies to pass the money on quickly. (I understand their desire to hang on to the money and rake off that interest, but I think the charities will make better use of it, and we're not giving it to the phone companies to help their bottom line!)
