Balance in the Universe....
Well.
I took the car in, because I was going on a road trip in June, and I wanted to be sure it was safe, and also the A/C has been intermittent in a weird way, and that needs to be fixed before road trips or summer. I've done a drive across country with no A/C in summer. Please, Universe, never again! An oil change, possibly a tune-up, and check the two tires that are left from buying the car two years ago -- that sort of thing.
They didn't call yesterday. I didn't go anywhere because I felt lousy, and also the lock on the driver's door on the loaner was intermittent, and I needed to get the laptop home. Not calling is ominous. K.C.'s been a good shop for me, and they would not just blow me off a day.
Last night, a friend asks me to house-sit and cat-sit for her for two weeks in June. This includes the weekend I was planning to be gone, but we figure we can work around that. She's going to pay me, since this saves her a fortune in pet boarding plus has someone watching her house in a slightly fluffy area. I can even bring my cat, bless her, who I will keep in her master suite (which is as large as my apartment.)
This AM, my housing and ride-sharing for the convention falls through.
I call the mechanic after 1 pm today, and catch Kevin totaling, and with a few calls still out. Uggh. Not good. Turns out that two outer CV boots are broken (Is this the way I drive? Or because I keep cars until they are ready for scrap?) plus two tires need replacing, plus the back struts are shot, plus something about an axle. Well, I was expecting to spend the tax refund on the car, and suspected I'd have to toss in another 20%, and that's looking like how it's going.
I did remind him that I want the usual question answered -- is this car worth repairing? (For me -- my cars are generally worth repairing for a mechanic. Mechanics often buy my cars at auction.)
So I have already spent the money I will be paid for house sitting. That's the bad news. The good news is, between the tax refund and house-sitting, I should be able to pay for the repairs without touching savings. Plus, I get to go to a friend's birthday celebration!
This does suggest some sort of balance in the universe. But I'll be shipping the stuff for the art show. New plans...
