#$%$@!!@# Debit Card Programs!
RANT
The idiot marketing program I belong to (in order to get the excellent patches that allow me to sometimes sleep, and usually stay focused) has changed its payment plan THREE times in the last 12 months, with new debit accounts, programs and cards. Thanks to my being tardy following up on this, since I don't sell the products, I merely use them, I have $24.05 in dormant account fees to pay. I have frozen this, thankfully.
Ready for this? They will not take a credit card as payment for the amount. They didn't even give me the chance to ask if they would take a bank account number. No, they want Western Union or a MoneyGram.
Who the HELL still uses Western Union for anything other than wiring money out of the country?
I hope my local grocery still uses Western Union, as I have no desire to walk into a WalMart looking for a MoneyGram booth.
You KNOW these patches work well for my sleep problems and ADD, or I would not put up with this CRAP.

No, I can't get a new account with them because they are a group that is in a twilight corner of the financial industry. They only take care of debit cards for companies who pay their employees through a debit card.
When I went to Western Union's site, they had nine choices I had to choose from among to "pick a location" and none of them used terms that remotely sounded like anything I wanted to do. So I called back to ask what the service I wanted would be called at WU. The woman I talked with this time told me I wanted "prepaid services" and asked me why I was using the service. I explained. And found out this: These special debit cards do not effect your credit rating.
I can't imagine that this loophole will last forever, but they are not banks and not subject to financial regulations. Therefore, they don't report to credit agencies. Turns out that you must have on-line access to determine your amount on the card -- if you try to figure it out by attempting to pay for something, you are charged each time the card has to refuse to pay for your purchase.
I don't really owe them any money -- all the money on the list was fees for things like that. The staffer was able to erase all but the two months of dormant card charges. My card is now mothballed. Those charges will go away if I simply put money on it! But it's phantom money, all for a click of the computer. It will not continue to accrue, and will just hang there for years if I never do another thing. And it won't affect my credit rating.
Bizarre. I will probably check this out with a friend in the financial world, just to be sure. But if I could get a card with someone, I'd do it with them just because this person was so informative. I hope she doesn't get in trouble for being so honest!
This is, if you think about it, a sneaky way to make sure that your employees are mostly young people. Anyone older who is not keeping up with the literally monthly changes in things like this will not get the game and will probably give up.
A friend of mine once told me, and he wasn't joking, that "The Number of the Beast" was a credit card number. That those who could not use credit would be barred from the games of higher finance. In a funny way, he was right!
