Mentoring Sale from Judith Tarr!
The supremely talented Judith Tarr is offering a sale on writing/editing/mentoring advice -- 5 hours for $180. This can be quite in-depth -- she elaborates over here.
There is also mention of a sale price for Fat White Ponies Retreats. If you have ever wanted a writing retreat with Lipizzans -- or just a retreat, or a beginning writer retreat, or an advanced equestrian retreat? Discuss it with Judith. She has a herd of the phenomenal creatures who help make it happen -- right up to a session of horse yoga! (If you've ever wondered, Lipizzans -- Judy's horses -- were the inspiration for Misty Lackey's Valdemar series.)
This is a fundraiser, in a sense -- the drought in the southwest has caused the price of hay to skyrocket, and as you can imagine, these wonderful creatures eat hardy. So pass the word along!
And a Kickstarter is coming up for artwork for her next ebook. This will be exciting, because not only is another Tarr masterpiece about to be born, but I watch Kickstarter with interest.
If NYC fails me with Allie, I'll be doing a Kickstarter to get cover art for three Allie novels, plus seed money for dead tree editions.

Well, since I feel I gotta give the agent a shot at selling it, I haven't got any firm ideas. I have been leaning towards something representational but not complicated, as if painted in oils. Of course, ebook art is not like hardcover or mass market covers. It has to shrink too small for that detail.
I can see looking over the shoulder of a young girl with long blond braids, to something she's doing with her hands, like crushing herbs in a mortar. Another one might show her drawing a ritual circle in bloody water on the top of a boulder. A third might show her darting through a snowy maze in twilight, as if just looking the same direction as she is, over her shoulder. The floor of the maze has a soft blue-white glow, the only form of illumination.
But I'm not a cover artist, so this may be all wrong. I was going to ask a few other writers and artists their impressions, and then ask fans, too.
I think I want the potential reader to be curious about what she's doing. But we may need menace too -- so we might need glowing werewolf eyes watching her crush those herbs. And so on.
In other words -- kick-butt, bestseller covers!
