I ask because I have no memory of adding someone, who has suddenly exploded as a tweeter. And this person does not seem to be selling anything, so probably not a spammer.
I've gone to people's page & seen the follow button already clicked (and I didn't follow them) .. but I never saw them in my stream. Wil Wheaton, for instance. I go read him individually, because I want to see who all he is bantering with, rather than the limited view I would have if he were in my follow list.
You might have accidentally clicked it but also sometimes a person changes their name so you don't recognize it , but you added them ages ago as another name.
Twitter hasn't been that reliable about either not making it look like you've added people you haven't, or showing that you have added people on your followers list. PITA.
