download Calibre. It's relatively intuitive, and easy to use.

I have Calibre -- that's what I read on my desktop. They have a Kindle app?

You should be able to use it to create a mobi file from an epub....

Good news: Calibre!

How about using Calibre to convert them?

It's clearly the default program!

I just feel lousy and was disappointed I don't get to sit and read right away.

Calibre it is!

But if you are a happy compulsive you can now even add descriptions to the front of the book or get the real cover (in the case of the big six publishers) OR increase font size - and do it all in batch conversion, too. ^^

Actually I've been using Calibre the other way round - if an author only sells on Amazon.com I can buy the book, get it send to Kindle for PC, rip the DRM if necessary and convert it to .epub in Calibre, then upload to my Sony.
