Computer Rant...

Warning -- RANT:

I am so tired of looking for a laptop. Just found a review that says the keys stick on one Toshiba model! Costco FINALLY gets them in, they are not set up to actually do anything with a high end machine, so I can't test the keyboard, I cannot see anything on the screen to see if it's a good enough screen for my vision problems, and the "sale" price expires TONIGHT. Since I was in last week looking for this computer, it''s been on sale less than a week? And it's Windows 8, which looks totally different, plus will Scriveners work with Windows 8 (only piece of software I really need working with it next week?)

I have an hour to decide whether to go buy the damned thing, and then return it tomorrow if it's $##@#$%.

\RANT

Apologies if this crossposts -- I told it not to!

I wouldn't touch a Windows 8 machine with a 10' pole. It's unlikely to be backwards compatible with *anything*. There's also reported to be a major learning curve because all kinds of things work differently. In short, it looks so bad that my employer's IT department has already decided that they're going to hold at Windows 7 until whatever comes after Windows 8 comes out, in hopes that there is enough user outcry to make Microsoft come to their senses, as they did between Vista and Windows 7. You'll be happier if you find yourself a nice Windows 7 machine.

I bought it, but we could not find Notepad or Wordpad on the thing. No way at all for me to test typing on the machine. I will check tomorrow to see if Scrivener will work with it, and also to find Notepad, which I use a lot. If Scrivener won't work with it, I'll probably return it. Looking for the Windows 7 drivers and Windows Seven seems silly.

I'll wait and see what machine I can find that will work with Scrivener!

Maybe by then I can report on my Windows 8 experiences? Let me know what time works for you.
