Computer Regrets
I just had to yank the battery from this laptop to get the keyboard and mouse clicks to start working again. The tech on the phone had no idea what happened, or how to stop it from happening again, but at least it's working again.
I am torn between returning this computer in the next couple of days and buying an Apple (which, as I'm not employed right now, is a hardship) or calling Microsoft and asking for detailed instructions to install the previous operating system, which according to the license I have the right to do.
The warranty with returns at Costco expires the fifth, so I have to decide now. And I need my computer for entering job apps. This is %%&$$$##@%&*& inconvenient and very frustrating.
Not buying MS Office. Praying Apple does not screw up their systems for people doing business on machines, because I don't want a tablet to play with, I need a #$%^#@@@$$% computer!
Does this mean I have to take Mercury retrograde seriously from now on?

Computer Woes
There is, indeed, a serious bug in Windows 8 that they don't seem to be addressing despite multiple updates. From time to time, my netbook loses contact with whatever wi-fi network it's been using and the only way to reconnect is a full reboot. Sounds like it affects peripherals as well.
BTW, you're welcome to borrow my netbook as a stop-gap, if you need Windows, or I have a Chromebook that's great for just about everything that doesn't require on-board software.
Re: Computer Woes
Thanks for the offer -- I've calmed down. I am just going to have to search on the new work-around software Scalzi was talking about for the operating system. There's also Unix -- I might make the jump, if I can't see any other way out!
