Just curious...

Does anyone else find it offensive when groups whose petition you once signed start sending you messages about membership renewal and "Reviewing your records" when you've never donated to them and never intended to donate to them?

I'm with you!

I'm starting to get off their lists. I am struggling to keep my head above water - I don't need fake guilt to go along with it!

Yes indeed. And ditto the charities that I send a check to perhaps once a year. I made a donation; I did *not* take out a "membership" that needs renewing.

Exactly. I can't remember to donate every few months -- once a year works for me. I don't mind a yearly request, but sending out more requests just makes me annoyed at how they are spending money.

Then there are the ones that start TELEPHONING! I usually tell those pests that anyone who calls for money gets on my 'do not give to ever again' list. And I do keep such a list. Any group that spends their money to pester people for said money repeatedly doesn't need it.
The 'reminders' are a racket. My guess is that they count on people thinking that they may have made some commitment that they have forgotten about and feeling guilty and so giving more.
And it is a way to prey on the elderly who are afraid that they are forgetful.

I drop groups that phone, too. I did finally, firmly point out to one caller that I had never once answered the phone or offered them anything -- and they never left me instructions on how to leave them anything. And they had followed me through three phone number changes.

They have finally disappeared.

Frustrating. (Must throttle stuffed animal.)
